talk on “Integration of Science, Technology and Innovation” by Mr. G. Krishnan,
Manager, Centre for Entrepreneur Development and Incubation, National Institute
of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, was conducted as part of the BECH-Awareness
Series1
at the Bharathidasan University by Bharathidasan University Entrepreneurship,
Innovation and Career Hub (BECH). Mr. Krishnan in his
talk revealed to students the various potential areas of innovation and
entrepreneurship in their particular field. Treading a path different from the
conventional style of lectures, Mr. Krishnan explained his ideas to the
students using various videos with constant interaction with the participating
students, taking their feedback and clearing their various doubts and queries
regarding innovation and entrepreneurship. He gave the students a brief idea
about the various sectors in Science and technology in which they can pursue
innovations. He narrated the success story of Anu Acharya, founder of the
Hyderabad based biotechnological startup Ozimum Solutions which works
associated with advance biotechnology projects such as the Human Genome
Project. The speaker also shed some light on the ancient Indian traditions of
innovative thinking as demonstrated in the various tales in Indian
mythology.
He
asked the students to find a career in which they can be innovative and
reminded them that scientific and technological inventions and innovations that
do not serve any purpose to the society is of no consequence.

Prasanna, Dy. Director i/c, Bharathidasan University Entrepreneurship,
Innovation and Career Hub (BECH) welcomed the gathering. Dr. Prasanna informed
the gathering that Bharathidasan University Entrepreneurship, Innovation and
Career Hub (BECH), constituted to integrate the idea of Innovative
Entrepreneurship in the curriculum in teaching and research will be funding
projects and startups by students and research scholars of the university if
their proposals regarding new business models or thematic projects are approved
by the cell. He also added that students can participate in international
exchange programmes, do Post-doctoral fellowships and internships with BECH and
that the cell will provide seed investment and development environment for
innovative startups by students and research scholars.
Dr. M. Manickavasagam, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology,
Bharathidasan University proposed the Vote of thanks. The talk was attended by
a great number of students and faculty from various departments of the
university.
