Opportunities and Challenges Physical Sciences and Innovations

A talk on “Opportunities and challenges- physical sciences and innovation” by Prof. V.Ramakrishnan, UGC BSR Faculty fellow (Madurai Kamaraj University) and former director, Indian Institute of Science and Research, Trivandrum was conducted as part of the of BECH-Awareness Series1 at the Bharathidasan University by Bharathidasan University Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub (BECH). Professor Ramakrishnan in his talk observed that there is a lack of exchange of expertise and coordination various science and humanities disciplines in solving common problems of the society. He also added that there is no proper network between practitioners and experts from diverse disciplines of knowledge international platform and called for a national platform for the same encouraging curiosity driven research. He stated that the role of science community in solving the day-to-day problems and providing innovative solutions are as important as those of engineers. He suggested the alignment of academic activities with the development of the community by maintaining a cutting-edge curriculum and creating a stimulative learning environment as Research and development plays an important role in economic productivity. He cited the example of the Unemployment Youth Employment Generation Programme (YEGP) of Tamil Nadu government to substantiate his point.

Bharathidasan University Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub (BECH) was constituted to integrate the idea of Innovative Entrepreneurship in the curriculum in teaching and research. In this connection, the BECH will conduct programmes by eminent people who have established themselves in their field of teaching and research at the global level, motivating students and scholars to be innovative in their thinking and to instil the idea of becoming entrepreneurs in future. The focus is to transform students’ community to meet social needs with international standards.
